Welcome to the Homework Blog for

Sensational Science!

I am so excited about our year together! Find your homework below! NOTE: You should check this blog by 6:30 p.m. every Monday. Please PRINT this homework and put it in FRONT of the Homework section of your notebook.

Homework Due September 21st

1. Make sure that you have all of the required resources:
  • 1.5" to 2” binder with at least:
  • 10-15 section dividers that you can label
  • Ruled notebook paper in the back of your notebook
  • 2 sharpened pencils with good erasers
  • Red Pen
  • Black Pen
  • Highlighter
  • 2 Gluesticks

2.  Please label the first few tabs of your binder. Then print and place this Assignment page IN FRONT of your homework tab.  The completed homework goes behind Tab#1 Homework:
  • Tab#1 "Homework"
  • Tab#2 "Earth Science: Fresh Water"
  • Tab#3  Chemistry
  • I will give you more tabs later!

3. In class, we began to learn about the Great Lakes.  Click on  THIS LINK to visit a page and answer these questions about the Great Lakes (we already discussed much of this in class):
#1.  If the Great Lakes were spread out to cover all of the USA how deep would the water be?

#2.  If you were to walk all the way around the state of Michigan how many miles would you walk on a shore or beach?

#3.  What percentage of the entire world's fresh water is in the Great Lakes? (we discussed this in class, if you do not remember, look it up!)

4.  Now go to THIS Link and explore.  Roll your curser over the lakes to see how deep there are and to see how they flow from Lake Superior to the Atlantic Ocean.  We did an experiment on this in class.  Explain to a parent WHY and how the water flows from Lake Superior into the Atlantic Ocean.

5.  This Link  lists some animals that are native to the Great Lake Region.  Choose one animal from the list of Mammals, one bird from the list of birds, and one type of fish from the list of Great Lakes Fish.  Now find a picture of each of these animals on the internet.  Print these 3 pictures (one Great Lakes mammal, bird, and fish) and bring them to class on Friday!  We will discuss how this freshwater habitat supports life on Friday.
