I am so excited about our year together! Find your homework below! NOTE: You should check this blog by 6:30 p.m. every Monday. Please PRINT this assignment sheet and put it in FRONT of the Homework section of your notebook.
Homework Due September 21st
1. Make sure that you have all of the required resources:
- 1.5" to 2” binder with at least:
- 10-15 section dividers that you can label
- Ruled notebook paper in the back of your notebook
- 2 sharpened pencils with good erasers
- Red Pen
- Black Pen
- Highlighter
- Tab#1 "Homework"
- Tab#2 What is Literature
- Tab#3 Books Timeline
- I will give you more tabs later!
3. In class, we began to learn about Literature. Use the work we did in class to tell a parent these things:
#1 What is literature?
#2 Name the 2 categories of literature.
#3 What is your favorite type of literature?
4. This week we will create a favorite books timeline. You will need to create a list of your favorite books and collect some pictures! Click on this link to Print this Handout and complete it and bring it completed, along with your 10 pictures, to class. There is space for 11 books just in case you need to add one more than 10!
5. Please purchase a copy of the book WONDERSTRUCK by Brian Selznick.
(Available on Amazon for $22 new - this is a large book so it is only available in hardback) and $8.50 used. All of our books this year will be much cheaper than this one but this is a very large book that is 1/2 graphic novel and 1/2 novel. If purchasing a used book on Amazon try to stay away from “acceptable” condition books and with this book I would only choose a Very Good, or Like New book. Be extra cautious with this particular title, because of the large size the spine can be broken. Half Price Books usually has it in stock as well!
We will begin reading the book in class is October 5th.
NOTE: there is a movie out based on this book. PLEASE DO NOT WATCH IT (I asked and all said they had not seen it.) There are many surprises in this book and the fun of discovery is so great - don't want it to be spoiled!
