1. Print this document about History of Deaf Culture and Sign Language. Read the document.
2. Watch this Video of an Introduction to ASL for beginners. See if you can learn to say hello and the word deaf in sign language.
3. Imagine that you, like Ben in our story had an accident that caused you to be deaf. Take a piece of paper and brainstorm 3-4 feelings that you would have - write down these feeling words. Next make a list of 3-4 thoughts you would have. Ask your parents if this were to happen to you, what would they do?
4. Now, compose a paragraph or two describing how you would feel, what you would think, and what steps you and your family would likely take if you lost your hearing.
