Read these notes about My Side of the Mountain:
Sam is surviving by finding his own food to live on. He had a whole field of wild strawberries before the little old lady came and picked them for her jam.
He also makes acorn pancakes. Here is a picture of a book of recipes to make with Acorns. What do you think, would you make something from this book?

You have to be very careful when finding food to eat in the wild. Sam has a guide to help him identify poison plants and has done lots of research in the library to learn what he can and can’t eat. He took a plant guide with him like this one that shows some edible weeds:
